Fishing
Custom rods, the catch minigame, grades, baits, Fishing Mastery and every loot table.
OneBlock has its own fishing. Cast a custom fishing rod into water and a school of fish swims to your hook. When one bites, a catch minigame starts: keep the fish inside your zone until the CATCH bar fills. Every catch earns Fishing Mastery XP.

Vanilla rods don't play the minigame
A normal Minecraft fishing rod just does vanilla fishing. Its main use is catching prizes at the Treasure Pond.Getting a rod
- 1
Go to the Fishing Guide
Find the NPC on the gateway row at spawn, or type
/fishingguide. - 2
Claim your Copper Fishing Rod
Press Claim Free Copper Fishing Rod. It is free once per account, and you need one empty inventory slot.
- 3
Find water
Fish on your own island or on a Monster Island (Corrupted, Desert, Frozen). The Halloween island has no fishing.
| Rod | How to get it |
|---|---|
| Copper Fishing Rod | Free from the Fishing Guide, once per account |
| Desert Fishing Rod (Steady Hands I) | Rare catch on the Desert Monster Island (Fishing Mastery 25+). Also an 18.75% drop from the Prismarine Rider sea creature. |
| Frost Fishing Rod (Frosty Haul I) | 35% drop from the mounted Prismarine Rider on the Frozen island (Fishing Mastery 50+) |
| Premium rods (Ghost, Pumpkin and their Gold versions, and more) | From Bundles |
| Flesh Eater Fishing Rod | Halloween island mob drop. See Halloween Event. |
All custom rods take vanilla rod enchants and the custom fishing enchants.

The Fishing Guide menu with all five buttons
On an account that has not claimed the Copper rod yet, run `/fishingguide`. Capture the whole form with all five buttons; the claim button must still say Claim Free Copper Fishing Rod.
public/images/oneblockonline/wiki/fishing/fishing-guide-menu.png
Two more commands: /fishing (or /fish) browses what you can catch on each Monster Island, and /fishingcolors changes the minigame colours.
The catch minigame
- 1
Cast and wait for a bite
Up to 6 fish gather within 16 blocks and swim to your hook. The first to arrive bites.
- 2
Move the aqua zone
A grid appears with a 3x3 aqua zone you steer with your movement keys, and a coloured target fish that hops around.
- 3
Keep the fish in the zone
While the fish is inside, CATCH fills and GRACE recovers. While it is outside, Grace drains, and each time it slips out you lose a little extra Grace.
- 4
Land it
Fill CATCH to win ("CAUGHT!"). If Grace runs out, the fish "ESCAPED".
Rarer fish use a bigger grid, and some move faster.
| Rarity | Grid | Target moves every |
|---|---|---|
| Common | 5x5 | 9 ticks |
| Uncommon | 6x6 | 8 ticks |
| Rare | 7x7 | 9 ticks |
| Epic | 8x8 | 9 ticks |
| Legendary | 9x9 | 8 ticks |
| Mythic | 10x10 | 7 ticks |
The catch minigame on an Epic catch with the CATCH and GRACE bars
Fish on a Monster Island until you hook an Epic catch (8x8 grid). Capture mid-fight with the aqua zone, the target fish and both CATCH and GRACE bars visible. First person, PC 1920x1080.
public/images/oneblockonline/wiki/fishing/minigame.png
Colour-blind friendly
/fishingcolors switches the grid to monochrome, blue_yellow or purple_orange (or off). With no option it shows your current setting.Grades and Mastery XP
The Grace you have left when you land a fish sets your grade, and a better grade gives a bigger chance at bonus Mastery XP. The result shows on screen, for example "GRADE S+ / Fishing Mastery +27 XP".
| Grade | Grace left | Bonus Mastery XP chance |
|---|---|---|
| SS | 99%+ | 100% |
| S+ | 95%+ | 90% |
| S | 90%+ | 75% |
| A | 75%+ | 50% |
| B | 50%+ | 25% |
| C | 25%+ | 10% |
| D | Below 25% | 0% |
| Rarity | Mastery XP per catch (at least) |
|---|---|
| Common | 18 |
| Uncommon | 27 |
| Rare | 90 |
| Epic | 180 |
| Legendary | 360 |
| Mythic | 750 |
Big catches (sea creatures, rods, enchant scrolls, island trophies) are announced in global chat: "[Fishing] Name caught Item at Location!". You can hide these in /settings.
Baits and enchants
Baits
Keep bait anywhere in your hotbar; the leftmost bait is used. One bait is used up when a fish bites, not when you cast. The HUD shows which bait is active. If you move it out of your hotbar during a bite, the fish gets away.
| Bait | Effect | Where to get it |
|---|---|---|
| Nautilus Bait | +25% Fishing Mastery XP | Corrupted island sea creatures: 12% from the Corrupted Nautilus, 20% (1-2) from the Decayed Nautilus |
| Trident Bait | Double chance to hook a sea creature; target moves 18% more often | 8% drop from the Corrupted Drowned (Corrupted island sea creature) |
The Corrupted Island merchant buys both baits for $40 each.
Vanilla enchants on custom rods
| Enchant | Effect per level | At level III |
|---|---|---|
| Lure | Bites come 4% faster | +12% bite speed |
| Luck of the Sea | +3% weight for uncommon-or-better catches | +9% |
Custom fishing enchants (Quick Bite, Steady Hands, Coin Bait, Lifeline and more) are listed on Custom Enchants. Levels VI and VII can only be unlocked at the Bone Forge by depositing fish.
Fishing Mastery gates
Many catches only unlock once your Fishing Mastery reaches a set level. Locked entries are skipped when you fish, so your odds for unlocked catches are higher than the table shows. Grey catches in /fishing are locked; open them to see the requirement. See Masteries.
| Water | Unlock levels |
|---|---|
| Your island | No gates |
| Corrupted Island | 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 50 |
| Desert Island | 5, 15, 25, 30, 35 |
| Frozen Island | Everything except Cod and Salmon needs 35. Mounted Prismarine Rider 50, Aquatic Primordial 65. |
Loot tables
*Chance assumes every entry is unlocked. Baits, enchants and quests change the weights. "Fishing Quest" starts a quest instead of giving an item. Sea creatures are mobs you hook and then fight.

Fishing Quests (Monster Islands)
On the Monster Islands, a "Fishing Quest" catch gives you a quest. You can hold one at a time. A world marker ("Fishing Quest - Fish here!") and the actionbar show the target, distance, progress and reward. Every catch toward the quest pays the per-catch reward, and finishing it shows "Fishing Quest Complete!".
/discardfishingquestAbandon your current fishing quest| Quest type | Objective |
|---|---|
| Marked spot | Catch fish at the marked pool |
| Anywhere | Catch fish anywhere on this island |
| Specific fish | Catch a named fish. That fish becomes 5-6x more likely while the quest is active. |
| Rare haul | Catch Rare-or-better loot |
| Monster hunt | Hook a named sea creature, then defeat it. Each catch has a 20% chance to bring it. |
A Fishing Quest marker over a pool on the Corrupted Island with the quest actionbar
On the Corrupted Island with an active marked-spot quest. Stand back so the "Fishing Quest - Fish here!" world marker over the pool and the quest actionbar (distance, catches, reward) are both visible. First person.

Flopping Fish
Flopping Fish are little fish you hatch and breed on your island. The Flopping Fish Egg is a Rare catch on the Desert Island.
- 1
Place the egg
Put it on top of a solid block on your island (you need Build permission) with clear space above.
- 2
Wait for it to hatch
It cracks through its stages in about 3 minutes and a Flopping Fish Baby pops out.
- 3
Let it grow
A baby grows up on its own in about 93 minutes. Feed it bread to make a Fat Flopping Fish Baby, which grows up in about 17 minutes.
- 4
Breed them
Feed two adults bread. If they are close together they lay a new egg after a few seconds. Each adult can breed again after 60 seconds.
Adults have 10 HP and slap whatever they bump into for 5 damage (at most once every 5 seconds).
| Food | Hunger restored |

Tips
- Watch the Grace bar, not the timer. Landing with 95%+ Grace (S+) gives a 90% chance at bonus Mastery XP.
- Fishing quests pay far more than the catches themselves. Hold onto one while you fish.
- Use Trident Bait when you are hunting sea creatures, and Nautilus Bait when you are levelling Fishing Mastery.
- Lure and Luck of the Sea work on custom rods, so enchant your rod at a table or anvil.
