Get a free rod, play the catch minigame, use bait, and level up Fishing Mastery.

Fishing here is a small game. You cast a special rod, a fish bites, and then you have to keep the fish inside a box to reel it in. You can catch fish, money, Bones, gear and even sea monsters.

Every catch gives Fishing Mastery XP. Fishing Mastery is your fishing level. Higher levels unlock better catches. See Masteries.

Get your free rod

You need a custom fishing rod, a special rod from this server. A normal Minecraft rod does not play the fishing game. Its only job is the Treasure Pond.

   Go to the Fishing Guide

   Type /spawn, then walk to the Fishing Guide NPC on the gateway row. Or just type /fishingguide.

   Press Claim Free Copper Fishing Rod

   You get the rod once per account. Make one empty space in your inventory first.

   Find water

   Fish on your own island or on a Monster Island (Corrupted, Desert or Frozen).

The Fishing Guide menu also has How Fishing Works, Fishing Baits, Fishing Quests and Held Rod Effects (what the rod in your hand does).

How to catch a fish

1. 1

   Cast and wait

   Fish swim to your hook. The first one to arrive bites.

2. 2

   Move the blue box

   A grid appears. Steer the blue box with your movement keys. A coloured fish jumps around the grid.

3. 3

   Keep the fish in the box

   While the fish is inside, the CATCH bar fills. While it is outside, the GRACE bar goes down.

4. 4

   Reel it in

   Fill CATCH and you see CAUGHT!. If GRACE runs out, the fish ESCAPED.

Rare fish make the grid bigger and jump faster, so they are harder to keep in the box.

Hard to see the colours?

Type /fishingcolors to switch the grid to monochrome, blue_yellow or purple_orange.

Grades

When you land a fish, you get a grade. The more GRACE you have left, the better the grade. A better grade gives a bigger chance of bonus Mastery XP.

Rare catches always give much more Mastery XP than common ones.

You can turn these messages off: type /settings and switch off Show fishing catch announcements.

Bait

Bait is an item that makes your fishing better. Keep it anywhere in your hotbar. If you have more than one, the one furthest left is used. One bait is used each time a fish bites.

Normal enchants Lure (faster bites) and Luck of the Sea (better catches) work on custom rods too. Special fishing enchants are on Custom Enchants.

Fishing Quests

On a Monster Island you can sometimes catch a Fishing Quest. It is a small job, like "catch 5 fish at the marked spot". Every fish you catch for it pays money, Bones and Fishing Mastery XP, so quests pay much more than normal fishing.

• You can only have one quest at a time.
• A marker in the world and the text above your hotbar show where to go and what is left.
• Some quests ask you to hook and beat a sea creature.
• To give up a quest, type /discardfishingquest.

Flopping Fish

Flopping Fish are little pet-like fish you hatch on your island. The Flopping Fish Egg is a rare catch on the Desert Island.

1. 1

   Place the egg

   Put it on a solid block on your island with empty space above.

2. 2

   Wait

   It hatches in about 3 minutes and a baby comes out. It grows up in about an hour and a half.

3. 3

   Feed it bread

   Bread makes a baby grow up much faster. Give bread to two grown-ups standing close together and they lay a new egg.

Tips

• Watch the GRACE bar. Landing with almost full GRACE gives the best grade.
• Always carry a Fishing Quest on a Monster Island. It pays far more than the fish.
• Use Nautilus Bait to level up faster, and Trident Bait to hunt sea creatures.
• Put Lure and Luck of the Sea on your rod.
